Practice development for contemporary artists & product designers
Dutch Luxury Design supports contemporary artists and product designers in the development of their practice, positioning and career. Grounded in the content of the work, its context and a long-term vision of sustainable growth, we work with makers who feel that the quality of their work is stronger than the way it is currently seen, presented and valued.
A successful practice does not develop by itself. Beyond creating strong work, it requires direction, positioning and a clear relationship between the work, its presentation and the cultural and professional context in which it gains meaning. It is this coherence that determines how work is understood, appreciated and able to develop sustainably. A well-developed practice not only increases the visibility and recognition of the work, but also strengthens connections with collectors, commissioners, galleries and other relevant audiences. In doing so, it creates a stronger foundation for new opportunities, sales and long-term growth.

The world of art and design has fundamentally changed.
Creative work is more visible today than ever before. Through websites, social media, exhibitions and online platforms, artists and designers can easily reach an international audience. Yet greater visibility does not automatically lead to clearer positioning, greater recognition or sustainable professional development.
Many makers recognise this tension. Their work receives attention, while their practice remains difficult to define. Exhibitions, commissions and sales emerge, but often without a clear direction in positioning, presentation or career development. As a result, a gap develops between the quality of the work and the way it is understood, valued and able to evolve.
The challenge rarely lies in the work itself. More often, it lies in the development of the practice surrounding it.
Practice development
That is why we look beyond the work itself and focus on the development of the practice as a whole. Together, we work on:
- practice identity and positioning
- portfolio development and curation
- storytelling and presentation
- value development and pricing strategy
- communication and visibility
- career development and professional context.
Not as separate disciplines, but as one integrated approach to building a strong, distinctive and sustainable practice.
De Praktijk Studio
Practice development requires more than occasional advice. That is why we created De Praktijk Studio: a personal development programme in which we work together to build a strong, coherent and future-oriented professional practice.
De Praktijk Studio consists of two phases.
Phase 1 – Developing your Makers Merkgids
During the first phase we develop your personal Makers Merkgids—your strategic guide for the development of your practice. It brings together the identity, positioning, development direction and value development of your practice. As an integral part of the Makers Merkgids, these insights are translated directly into a personalised Communication Plan & Content Strategy, ensuring that your strategic direction can be applied consistently in your presentation, communication and visibility.
Phase 2 – Implementation & Further practice development
If you decide to continue, we guide you through the implementation of your Communication Plan & Content Strategy while supporting the ongoing development of your practice. Step by step, we build a practice that is not only strategically coherent, but also capable of developing sustainably over time.
What we believe
A strong practice is not created through greater visibility alone. It grows through better choices, clear positioning and a coherent relationship between the work, its presentation and its communication. As a result, the work is understood more deeply, confidence grows and stronger connections emerge with collectors, commissioners, galleries and other relevant audiences. Not by communicating more. But by becoming clearer about what you create, what you stand for and why your work matters.
What this creates
A practice that is better organised, more clearly positioned and capable of sustainable development. Including:
- a clear and consistent positioning
- coherence in portfolio and presentation
- a well-defined development direction
- a professional and recognisable profile
- stronger connections with collectors, commissioners, galleries and other relevant audiences
- a sustainable foundation for new opportunities, sales and the continued development of both practice and career.
Our role
Dutch Luxury Design is a development and positioning partner for contemporary artists and product designers who are committed to developing their professional practice. Not through isolated marketing activities or short-term visibility, but by building—step by step—a practice that is strategically coherent, professionally positioned and capable of sustainable growth.
